Oahu New Year's Eve Eve and New Year's Eve

On December 30, we had a loungy day, going for a long walk along the beach and hanging out around our hotel on Waikiki. We met Karen and John for drinks at the Halekulani (on Waikiki), and determined that their mai tai used a more classic recipe, essentially a rum margarita with almond syrup.

We had a short rain incident there, where we had to evacuate the outside area. The restaurant at the Halekulani is called House Without a Key. We decided to rename it House Without a Roof.

On New Year's Eve (our anniversary and also Karen and John's!) we went for a nice urban hike around Honolulu. Had some udon noodles for lunch, and imitated some loping roots.

We followed this hike with some beers at Duke's, where we altered their napkin. Ronkonkoma sounds vaguely tropical doesn't it?

For our co-anniversary dinner we had a truly amazing platter of the freshest ahi sashimi. YUM.

After dinner, we drove over to the Kleiber's, through a hail of private fireworks. They told me it would be like a war zone and I didn't really understand what that meant. It was though. Like a war zone. One addition to the cacophony of explosions was one at our very own party.

A mini-cannon!

Dave and I finished the evening on the balcony of our hotel, watching and listening to the increasingly amazing use of private fireworks. By midnight it sounded like Shock and Awe. Happy New Year everybody!
